Rules

(Taken from generally accepted Pond Hockey Rules with some modifications)

1. Teams will be assigned which goal to defend at start of game. Teams will switch goals after first half.
2. All players must wear helmets and hockey skates. Protective equipment is optional but highly recommended.
3. No goalies, goalie equipment or goalie sticks permitted- goalie skates okay.
4. All teams must have light and dark jerseys or uniforms.
5. All rinks will start and stop on the master horn.
6. Penalties will be called for rule infractions. Penalties called by rink officials are final. A minor penalty will result in possession of the puck awarded to the opposing team. Rink Officials will have the discretion to also award a goal to the opposing team when a minor penalty is flagrant and/or a team is consistently playing in a reckless manner.
7. Any major penalty, which includes any action that could possibly injure another player, will result in that player being ejected from the tournament. The team that received the ejection will play the remainder of the tournament short-handed (3 vs. 4). Rink official will determine major penalties. In other words, make sure you don’t invite morons to play for your team.
8. Abuse of rink officials will be considered a major penalty. This includes yelling, swearing, or arguing about calls.
9. No checking is allowed. Such action will result in a minor penalty unless deemed serious enough to be a major (rink officials discretion).
10. No slapshots allowed. Such action will result in a minor penalty- this isnt a tryouts for the Bruins buddy.
11. Players cannot fall or lay on the ice in an effort to protect the goal area. Players can not block the open area of the goal with a stick. Such action will result in a minor penalty.
12. Goaltending is not allowed. A player may not patrol, "camp out" or remain stationary in the crease area and act as a goaltender. A defender may deflect the puck in the crease area, but the defender must do so while continuing to move through the crease area. The crease area is defined as an imaginary box extending out four feet from the outside corners of the goal.
13. Contacting the puck with a stick above the waist will result in a loss of possession- keep your stick down champ.
14. Saucer passes (i.e. pucks that are lifted low, below the knee) are acceptable.
15. If a puck goes out of bounds, the last team to touch it loses possession. During restart, the defender must give his opponent 2-stick lengths of space.
16. There are no off-sides or icing calls.
17. Goals must be scored from the attacking side of center ice- ie no dumping it for a goal.
18. Rink Officials will call out the score after each goal. This includes goals scored by players or awarded from minor penalties.
19. Teams must give their opponents 1/2 ice after a goal is scored or an infraction takes place.
20. Games will be composed of two 12-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime.
21. Games on Friday and Saturday can end in a tie. However if playoff games ends in a tie, the play will move to sudden death format.
22. All games are running-time and substitutions can be made during play ("on-the-fly") or while a puck is being retrieved. There is no stoppage of play after a goal is scored, or after a penalty is awarded. It is up to each team to ensure that there are only four players on the ice.
23. Players can only play on one team.
24. Substitutions must be made by 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the tournament. No other substitutions throughout the tournament are allowed. The 6 to 8 players that are on your roster at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of the event must be the same players that play on your team throughout the tournament.
25. Setting picks in offensive zone is not allowed. Deference will be given to a defender in front of their own net where their progress is impeded by the pick or interference of an offensive player.
26. All players must visibly display their credentials during the tournament. Players without credentials are not allowed to play.
27. Games start and stop on the master horn, for every minute a team is late they will be penalized a goal. If a team fails to show up for a game they will forfeit the game with the final score of 15-0

We reserve the right to alter, change, or modify these rules leading into the tournament as we see fit. Rules will be set by tournament time.

Terms

1. Team entries must be paid in full prior to being considered for entry into the tournament. (no pay, no play – simple!)
2. All teams must have one captain who will serve as team representative in all coin tosses, decisions, and discussions. Only the captain may approach the officials on behalf of the team. This is purely from an organizational point of view (to prevent mob mentality and to keep order)
2. All players must wear helmets at all times while on the ice. Helmets must be strapped on for liability reasons. (Thank your lawyer)
3. A player will only be allowed to play for one team in the tournament. (If you still have energy after skating for your team, you didn’t party hard enough the night before)
4. All participants must show photo ID (proof of age) upon registration. (Just like the bar, everyone wants to get in)
5. Players will be required to sign all waivers at registration. (See that lawyer thing above)
6. All players must be at least 21 years old. Any player in violation of the minimum age requirement for the age divisions (30+, 35+, 40+, 50+) will forfeit their place in the tournament. Any team playing with underage or unregistered player(s) will be disqualified from the tournament and will not receive a refund. NO EXCEPTIONS. (Respect your elders, for they are old…)
7. Stimilon reserves the right to prohibit any player or team from participating if they are deemed unsafe, uncooperative, or unruly. (Don’t be a goon)
8. Stimilon reserves the right to change the rules at any time. Stimilon will serve as the governing body for this tournament and will be the final word on all decisions. All teams will be informed of changes prior to the start of the tournament. (This is a dictatorship, not a democracy)
9. If you want to have a fun weekend of playing hockey and partying with friends, we welcome you. If you think this is a NHL tryout, guess again. Please respect the Pond, town and local businesses so that we can all be invited back for years to come!

Thank you
